"Construction of Restrooms for the Girl Students"
Pedda Kottala is a remote village in Kurnool district. It has a population of around 10000. Nandyal is the only town near by the village which is 10 miles away. There is no proper commute to the town. There is no RTC service till date in the village. There are couple of Autos and horse carriages, but they are not sufficient for the population the village has. The Only other way is to walk for 1.5 miles to hit a high way and catch a bus or auto. It is very hard for small children to walk and travel such long distances. So a school was started to provide the educational facilities for this village children. The main aim of the school is to provide the minimum education for all the children in the village. They will collect nominal fees from the children who are afford to pay and nothing from who can't. Majority of the population are daily labor and they can't afford to send their children to school paying the fees. So the school committee also motivated the parents to send their children to the school without paying any fees. This school is running by a catholic mission and they are serving the village without expecting any returns. Students near by villages also come to this school as they offer free education or education with nominal fees.
Currently the school strength is more than 1000. More than 50% are girl students.
The school committee also started an old age home in the village and there are around 30-40 old women taking their help.
The main intention of this current project is to build the restrooms for the girls. More than 50% of the school strength is girls. But currently they have only 2 restrooms which is no way sufficient to more than 500 girl students. This school is in desperate need of extra rest rooms but as this school is providing free education, they don't have enough funds to build the extra rest rooms, so they requested for help. This is when Spandana decided to extend the help for construction of rest rooms for the school. The school committee tried to raise funds locally for this project and they could not raise any funds for the project.
Please contact Chandra Sekhar Madduri for any questions on the project on 309-310-2436.
The current estimate for constructing the restrooms is 2.20 lakhs ($5600). The plan is to construct 6 restrooms and a water tank. Spandana agreed to help the project and the work is already started. The project is estimated to be completed by end of January 2008. The high-level break-up of the project expenses are as under:
|Expense Amount in Rs.
|Septic Tanks, Water and Electric Supply
||2,20,000 INR (~5600USD)
