Spandana Foundation would like to support a Govt hospital in Polawaram, West Godawari district, AP, India in a response to the news came in Eenadu Online edition (October 7th, 2011). The news is about hospital not having power outage and all patients who come for surgeries, birth deliveries wait for 5-6 hours for power to come. The article also says the doctors started doing surgeries using Battery Lights.

Spandana Foundation would like to support this Govt Hospital and we spoke to the Dr Ravi P of the hospital and understood that they really need support and they do not have any other options. We explored the options of repairing and maintaining existing diesel generator but that looks to be expensive in long run and we need to have a resource to manage the procurement of fuel and maintenance.

Spandana identified various UPS & Battery suppliers in AP and shortlisted Amara Raja Electronics ( part of Amara Raja Batteries Group) to supply and install the UPS and batteries. After sending a technician, Amara Raja suggested 5KVA UPS with Maintenance Free Batteries. We will be supplying the UPS and batteries in next 1 week.

Project Cost: 100,000 INR for UPS and Batteries. 10,000/- INR for Cables & Installation
Total cost:  1,10,000/- INR.= 2200 USD
